Orbital Tower

Once co-capital of the Imperial Trailing Region, the world of Dione fell hard after the War of Disintegration.  The once proud cities that ringed the twelve towers supporting the world's orbital Ring fell quickly into darkness and after five centuries, even the refugee shanties that grew up on their outskirts were long abandoned.  But the rails that linked the cities still stood, nearly two hundred meters above the ground, and the Towers themselves still reached the Ring.  So an intrepid traveler could climb the maintenance stairs to orbit, with enough daring and oxygen, though none who tried ever returned.
